Red Carpet Inspiration Wedding Dress Sketches

I have been suffering from a terrible case of bloggers block this week.  Not least of all because this has been such a busy week for my team with all the hard work that has gone into the new collection which I must say I am incredibly excited about and cannot wait to reveal.

In spite of this dreaded bloggers syndrome that I have been suffering from, I am committed to turning something out each week; come rain or sunshine (well mostly rain for us in the UK!) and so I have borrowed a very popular article from my personal blog which I am certain all you brides out there would love.

Access this article 'My Red Carpet Inspiration Wedding Dress Sketches' by Clicking Here

I would love to know what you think about the sketches and do tell me what you would do with the amazing red carpet dresses for your wedding.

Many blessings,

Lisa

Hilarious and Low Cost Wedding Entertainment Ideas

Every time a bride comes in for a wedding dress design consultation at our Milton Keynes studio, I ask what she would like her guests to say about her wedding. The word 'fun' always comes up.  Brides tell me all the time that they want their guests to go away from their weddings feeling that they have had an absolutely fantastic time.

So why, in many cases, is the wedding entertainment not thought about until very close to the day and sometimes not at all?  Now I can tell you that this is a huge mistake because I have been to certain weddings where I have thought to myself 'I have probably had more fun sitting in the waiting area at my dentists than I am having right now'.

Besides the usual excitement of the walk down the aisle, tearful exchange of vows, throwing rice, couples entrance to reception and endless toasts; before the drunken gyrating on the dance floor begins, many a wedding has failed to keep guests entertained on what may be a full day's outing for them.

While I think it may be a bit desperate to go to criminal lengths like the bride in our 'Wedding Budget Nightmares' article did, we have some really funny and budget savvy ideas that may set you on your way to creating a day full of belly laughs for your guests.

Comedian

Everyone has a friend or cousin who leaves everyone in stitches with every word that comes out of his or her mouth? Why don't you ask this person to offer a short comedy sketch that is wedding related and tasteful to loosen guests up and get them chatting amongst themselves. To make it more original, get this person to work the floor having chats with pockets of guests and cracking them up with his jokes and little anecdotes.

Crazy Dancer

Everyone loves to watch other people having a fantastic time on the dance floor and more often than not, it gets us in the mood to have fun as well. Consider hiring someone who looks and dresses like a regular guest but breaks into the weirdest and most exciting dance moves every now and again and even pulls guests onto the dance floor to join him or her.  Go further by asking him or her to make up slips and falls periodically in the most awkward positions ever and that should get guests laughing their heads off.

Treasure Hunt

If you're having a big venue, stage a short treasure hunt and at the end of the hunt, the winner should find a complete non-prize like a really smelly pair of boots or a pair of giant size knickers.  Don't forget to give the winner an actual present after the guests have had a really good laugh at this poor unfortunate person's expense.

Sketch Artist

Employ a sketch artist; who instead of sketching your guests, creates a sketch of someone else entirely and when the guests complain that this is not them, this person should state that 'they are totally committed to their art and they have only sketched what they can see'.  For example, get them to sketch your size 20 Aunt Edna as 'Wonder Woman' and watch her blush like no man's business.  Don't forget to tell the photographer to capture these amazing moments.

Wedding Trivia

Have something akin to a pub quiz where guests are asked wedding trivia questions and the best table wins.  Find 20 wedding trivia questions in our article '20 Popular Wedding Customs and Traditions Explained' and make sure to use the funnier ones.

Crucial Questions You Must Ask Your Wedding Venue – Spotlight on Horwood House (Wedding Venue in Milton Keynes)

Horwood House, Milton Keynes
Horwood House (Wedding Venue, Milton Keynes)
Every time a bride visits our bridal boutique in Milton Keynes, the first question we ask before we even start the wedding dress design consultation is ‘where is your venue’.  It goes without saying that your wedding venue could potentially be the single most important part of your wedding planning process.  The wedding venue sets the tone and theme for the whole event even down to what you and your bridesmaids would wear or how many guests you would be able to invite.

Therefore, it is imperative that you choose your venue carefully as many a bride has found herself very dissatisfied with her entire wedding because she chose a venue that did not reflect her desires for her big day.
The following list of questions and tips will help you tremendously during your wedding venue search. We recommend that you print them out and use them as a guide while you’re talking with a wedding venue contact or reviewing a brochure. We also recommend that you think of a few questions that are more specific to your requirements and add them to this list.

- What dates are available in the month I’m considering?
- How many people can this wedding venue accommodate?
- What is the rental fee and what is included in that price?
- How much is the deposit, when is it due, and is it refundable? Do you offer a payment plan?
- Are you licensed to conduct wedding ceremonies? How much will you charge for the wedding ceremony?
- Is there a bride’s changing area?
- What’s the cancellation policy?
- How long will I have use of the wedding venue space(s) I reserve? Is there an overtime fee if I stay longer?
- Can I redecorate your venue to suit my purposes? Are there any guidelines/restrictions?
- Do you have an in-house wedding caterer and do I have to use your caterer or can I bring my own caterer?
- Do you provide tables, chairs, plates, silverware and glassware or will I have to get them myself
- How much do you charge for food per person and what is the service charge?
- Do you offer food tasting sessions and is it complimentary or do you charge extra for this
- Can I bring in my own wedding cake maker?
- Can I bring my own drinks and is there a limit on the quantity I am allowed to bring in?
- Are you licensed to provide alcohol? If so, what is the average bar tab for the number of people attending my event?
- Are there restrictions on what kind of music I can play, or a time by which the music must end?
- Can the wedding venue accommodate a DJ or live band? Make sure there is enough room for your DJ or band to set up and for dancing.
- Do you provide any free or paid-for parking and if not, where do guests park?
- Are cabs easily accessible from the wedding venue?
- How many restrooms are there? There should be at least 10 rest rooms per 100 people.
- Do you offer complimentary or paid-for on-site wedding coordination? What services are included?
- Do you provide security?
- Do you have liability insurance?
- Do you provide overnight accommodations and if so, how much do you charge?
- If you do not provide accommodation, what are the nearest hotels to the venue?
- Do you have signage or other aids to direct guests to my event?
- Can I take pictures of the venue?  This is especially important for your décor planning and comparing one venue with others you have viewed.

20 Popular Wedding Customs and Traditions Explained

Do you worry about not being able to afford enough or exciting entertainment for your guests on your wedding day?

I have flashbacks of weddings I have attended where I was near to throwing myself down wailing while the bride and groom took pictures for over 3 hours and guests had absolutely nothing to do.

We are offering you for FREE, a low stress and very low budget form of entertainment your guests would simply love.

We have put together a list of  explanations for popular wedding customs that everyone takes for granted today.  This type of trivia has started off great conversations amongst guests and kept them chatting away happily until the real action starts.

You may feel this would be hard to execute but consider this; write or type out one or two of these interesting ‘conversation starters’ in cute little cardboard squares.  These can then be handed to guests as they walk into the reception venue along with their drinks.  You will find guests talking and laughing about them as they discuss amongst themselves.  This should also break the ice amongst guests who had never met previously.

Here are a list of 20 of these trivia topics.

Bride and Groom

1. The word "bride" comes from old English for the name for "cook," while the word groom comes from "male child." I’m not that surprised that bride originates from cook considering that many women around the world spend more time cooking for their families than anything else.

Best Man

2. In ancient times marriages were accomplished by the groom kidnapping the bride; literally. He would of course have needed another warrior friend to help him battle with other men who wanted her also. This BEST MAN would also help the groom prevent the bride’s family from finding the couple. How romantic!! Not! I cannot imagine anything more awful than being stolen away from my family and loved ones by two mad men and having to live the rest of my life with one of them…

Rings

3. Diamonds set in gold or silver became popular as betrothal rings among wealthy Venetians toward the end of the fifteenth century.

4. Rings are worn on the fourth finger of the left hand; nearest to your pinky because it was believed that a vein in that finger led directly to the heart

Wedding Fashion

5. In the Western world, Queen Victoria started the trend of the white wedding dress in 1840. Before she pioneered this now widely accepted wedding dress tradition, brides simply got married in their best outfits

6. In ancient days, Greeks and Romans thought the veil protected the bride from evil spirits

7. Brides carry or wear "something old" on their wedding day to symbolize continuity with the past.

8. In biblical times, the colour blue represented purity, fidelity, and love and having "something blue" in the bridal ensemble meant that the bride embraced purity, fidelity and love

9. In past Roman law, bridesmaids and ushers represented ten witnesses who were present at a wedding to fool evil spirits. The bridesmaids and ushers dressed in very similar outfits with the bride and groom, in order to confuse the evil spirits who presumably would then not know who was really getting married.

Wedding Cake

10. The wedding cake originates from ancient Rome, where a loaf of bread was broken over a bride's head to make her more fertile

11. The idea of tiered cakes emerged from a game where the bride and groom attempted to kiss over a very high cake without knocking it over.

Music and Celebration

12. The tradition of playing Wagner's "Bridal Chorus" was established by Princess Victoria during her wedding processional in 1858 and of course, like so many other things royals do, all others followed suit

13. The "First Dance" dates back to ancient times when the groom after capturing his bride; would show off his kidnapped bride; parading her in front of his friends. My goodness, to not even get a chance to choose my own first song… Thank God those days are gone.

14. The first receptions were held in France; even though they were nothing like the bashes of today. Back in those days, there was an old French custom termed "charivari” where friends of the couple would find out where they were to spend their nuptial first night and would gather close by singing, dancing,  and keeping a generally raucous conduct to keep the couple awake

15. Ancient Spartan soldiers held stag parties to wildly celebrate leaving their bachelor days behind.

Customs

16. The bride stands to the groom's left because in the olden days the groom needed his right hand to be free to fight off other suitors while he was kidnapping his poor bride. Wow, those women must have been scared to death for their lives in every sense...

17.Posting the "banns of marriage" was started t by the Catholic to ensure that the bride and groom are not related. Nowadays, its more about making sure there are not already married to someone else or involved in any other dodgy behaviour

18. The groom lifts his bride over the threshold to protect her from evil spirits lurking below

19. In some past traditions, rice was sprinkled over the bride and groom to protect them from evil spirits.
It was accepted that these spirits always appeared at happy celebrations like a marriage, and by throwing
rice after the married couple, these evil spirits were fed and kept from doing harm to the newlywed

20. Not as romantic as you may wish but back in the olden days, fathers gave away their daughters in marriage to settle a debt or carry out business transactions. Talk about developing ‘daddy issues’
