the first question we ask before we even start the
wedding dress design
consultation is ‘where is your venue’. It
goes without saying that your
wedding venue could potentially be the single
most important part of your wedding planning process. The
wedding venue sets the tone and theme for the
whole event even down to what you and your bridesmaids would wear or how many
guests you would be able to invite.
Therefore, it is imperative that you choose your venue carefully
as many a bride has found herself very dissatisfied with her entire wedding
because she chose a venue that did not reflect her desires for her big day.
The following list of questions and tips will help you tremendously
during your wedding venue search. We recommend that you print them out and use them as
a guide while you’re talking with a wedding venue contact or reviewing a brochure.
We also recommend that you think of a few questions that are more specific to
your requirements and add them to this list.
- What dates are available in the month I’m considering?
- How many people can this wedding venue accommodate?
- What is the rental fee and what is included in that price?
- How much is the deposit, when is it due, and is it
refundable? Do you offer a payment plan?
- Are you licensed to conduct wedding ceremonies? How much
will you charge for the wedding ceremony?
- Is there a bride’s changing area?
- What’s the cancellation policy?
- How long will I have use of the wedding venue space(s) I reserve? Is
there an overtime fee if I stay longer?
- Can I redecorate your venue to suit my purposes? Are there any
guidelines/restrictions?
- Do you have an in-house wedding caterer and do I have to use your
caterer or can I bring my own caterer?
- Do you provide tables, chairs, plates, silverware and
glassware or will I have to get them myself
- How much do you charge for food per person and what is the
service charge?
- Do you offer food tasting sessions and is it complimentary or
do you charge extra for this
- Can I bring in my own wedding cake maker?
- Can I bring my own drinks and is there a limit on the
quantity I am allowed to bring in?
- Are you licensed to provide alcohol? If so, what is the
average bar tab for the number of people attending my event?
- Are there restrictions on what kind of music I can play, or
a time by which the music must end?
- Can the wedding venue accommodate a DJ or live
band? Make sure there is enough room for your DJ or band to set up and for
dancing.
- Do you provide any free or paid-for parking and if not,
where do guests park?
- Are cabs easily accessible from the wedding venue?
- How many restrooms are there? There should be at least 10 rest
rooms per 100 people.
- Do you offer complimentary or paid-for on-site wedding coordination?
What services are included?
- Do you provide security?
- Do you have liability insurance?
- Do you provide overnight accommodations and if so, how much
do you charge?
- If you do not provide accommodation, what are the nearest
hotels to the venue?
- Do you have signage or other aids to direct guests to my
event?
- Can I take pictures of the venue? This is especially important for your décor planning
and comparing one venue with others you have viewed.
