Is your wedding planning making you feel like you will need therapy when its all over. Trust me, you're not alone. If I had a pound every time a bride told me that she is struggling with one issue or another regarding her wedding, I would have been living it up in the Caribbeans by now.
Stress comes with the territory when it comes to wedding planning. Its that desire for perfection for our big day that makes it so difficult to see things through rose tinted glasses rather than the total catastrophe that it seems like at the time.
There are ways to deal with this and I am now sharing some of the techniques I used to get through the issues that caused me the most stress during my wedding 4 years ago and I hope these help you too if you come across such matters.
Here goes...
1.
Its your wedding, do it your way. You and your groom would need to come to an agreement on exactly what is most important to you concerning your wedding and what you want your memories of the day and even the planning period to be. You would inevitably have family and friends trying to help but don't be afraid to be firm where you need to be in expressing your opinions and preferences for the day. Agree on a budget and try as much as you can to stick to it. Money causes the most stress for most couples during their wedding planning period.

Create a checklist of things that you have to do before the day. This makes the daunting task of planning a wedding more manageable. It may seem overwhelming where you don't know what needs to be done, how to do it or when to do it but if you have a checklist, you can tick things off as you achieve them.

Make sure you choose bridesmaids and grooms men that will help and not hinder. The worst thing ever is to have bridesmaids that make your planning just awful. I have heard horror stories about bridesmaids that sabotaged weddings and made the bride's life a living hell. Choose your nearest and dearest and don't bow to family pressure regarding this matter.

Don't get too hung up on a certain dress or certain look for your wedding. In fact, we always say to the brides who come in to our Bridal Boutique before they do to come in with an open mind and readiness to be spoiled :). Not many people have ever worn a dress as glamourous and detailed as a wedding dress therefore, its the one dress you just never know about. You must try on different dresses. You never know which one would look best on you until you try it. We believe that you should focus more on the fit of the dress and how comfortable you are and all the details can be changed around to suit you. In fact, we specifically change details of a dress every time a bride requires it to suit her tastes and expectations.

5. Schedule a weekly no wedding planning day. This is very important for you and your groom's relationship. You don't want the beauty that existed between you to unravel during the period where you're planning a celebration of being joined in holy matrimony forever. Find something else to do that night or day every week; go and watch a movie, go for dinner, cook a meal for each other and just talk about everything else in your lives not wedding related. Its easier said than done but believe me, it will be a day much looked forward to each week and something special to get you through that stressful time.

My final tip is that you should remember throughout the whole planning process that the most important part of this is that you will be joined with the love of your life and everything else will pale in comparison. Everything will work out at the end and you'll have a fabulous day.
